Did you know you had soffits ?

Soffit translates from the French as ‘something underneath’, and that describes a soffit exactly. They are found fixed under the lower edge of the roof, connecting to the wall at ninety degrees. You can see them clearly in the photograph.

Why do we have them ?

They look good, of course, and finish the roof off nicely. Aesthetically pleasing. It looks strange without them. Especially on a modern house. But more importantly, they help to regulate the ventilation to the roof. Without soffits, the roof space can become damp. Over time that will cause the roof timbers to rot.

Soffits are also essential to keep animals out of the roof space. Without them birds, squirrels and rats can get access, and cause damage.

Soffits don’t last forever. The wooden ones need maintenance and will rot. We can replace your soffits, or repair and renew your existing siffits.

​We recommend long-life PVC soffits. We can supply flat and fluted soffits, and also add additional ventilation if required.
